Tottenham Boss Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Real Fans'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Increase Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "those individuals cannot be real Tottenham fans" by manager Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth top-flight at home loss of 2025.
But the primary talking point was the visitors' second goal when the keeper gave away the ball far outside his area.
The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball near the touchline.
However, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italy international spun and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
King laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the sideline recorded at thirty-six point six metres.
Moments later when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Spurs supporters booed him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those booing sessions really irritated Frank.
"It came to my attention a few of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and jeered following, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals can't be true Tottenham supporters that act that way. Fair enough jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind each other going forward."
Kenny Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute advantage prior to Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second period performance.
Former top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the second goal was "completely preventable".
"I certainly appreciate the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the part the keeper is performing. He is a excellent team player, he's a real figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"He was heavily involved in what turned out to be the winning score."
'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game
Italy international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.
He said after the match that he had to take the feedback.
"The second score was a mistake of my own, I take accountability for it," he commented.
"My aim was to kick the ball long and I just hit the ball in a bad way. It was an more difficult challenge to overcome."
He said receiving jeers "comes with the game".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "We can't be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.
"It is on us to remain increasingly composed, to focus on our own performance. We are lacking in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. This match is a poor defeat and it's hard to take."
'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Line'
Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an easy score for Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the next most distant Premier League goal of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open goal to target.
10 moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and Wilson striking – which was five moments following the kick.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the area for a long time," Wilson said.
"I was surprised not one of the back four returned to the line. When none of them covered the net, my eyes sparked a bit.
"Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a little additional opportunity. Then it was solely about trying to achieve the correct connection and get it towards goal. I had a good feeling, the moment it left my foot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Work Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank
Although the keeper's error dominated coverage, this was an overall bad performance for Spurs to continue their home woes.
This was their 10th home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club record along with 1994 and 2003.
The side still have home games against Frank's old side Brentford and champions Liverpool to come prior to the close of the year.
Only one of those victories have come since the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"When you're down 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.
"When you're in a bad spell, everything seems to go against you too – the opening was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from the keeper.
"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have lost another match. Each fixture has a single story, this game we lost in the first six minutes.
"We just need to keep working. The second half was much better and with luck an aspect we can use to learn."
Spurs have been defeated in four straight home London derbies for the initial time in the top division.
Furthermore they are recording nine point five shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the division – their poorest rates on record in a single season (dating back to 2003-04).
Ex- Cottagers midfield player Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He's got take the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He has accepted a high profile job at a major football club with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.
"The performances at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
