A campaign is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign hopes to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.

An Opportunity for Support and an "Chart Upset"

Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.

“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”

Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.

“The song holds a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”

Recording Origins and Featured Artists

The single was laid down following a major charity concert held in late summer. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to the event running long.

The diverse array of performers appearing on Lullaby includes a selection of prominent voices from the industry. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a significant sum for charitable causes.

Production and Release

Lullaby was produced by a team of producers and composers. The single blends a fusion of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.

The team running the initiative have stated that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.

“There is no a specific target,” a representative explained. “We will pursue as much as possible. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to Gaza.”

The situation in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure said to be levelled or seriously harmed.

“Against that backdrop, a few million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is primarily making this cause better known and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”
