The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
