News has broken that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Major Comeback for the Franchise
Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. Industry whispers indicate their cameos will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, as the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.
This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several notable actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
