Following weeks of tension, plots and sabotage, Celebrity Traitors concludes with a thrilling finale
Spoiler alert - This piece discloses details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, audiences saw eliminations, betrayals, serious side-eye, and a memorable moment that pierced the overwhelming suspense.
Yet on Thursday night, the ultimate victor of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
Out of nineteen participants, just a handful were left standing: Deceivers and loyal players competing for the prize.
Before long, the field narrowed to just three: the final players.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr was crowned the winner, in a shocking result that went viral and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he declared, revealing to the other players that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."
"You did brilliantly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Social media quickly erupted with this development. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," wrote one user.
"There could not have been a more iconic ending," stated a different person, while someone else called it "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive all the prize money, with the final pot amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers in shock, according to entertainment reporters.
"The thought of him, among everyone, executing a masterclass in deception felt about as likely as him keeping a straight face through one of his own punchlines."
During follow-up conversations, the other contestants summed up why no one had ever really suspected him.
"Alan could have come down to the morning meal in traitor attire and I still wouldn't have thought he was deceiving us. I was too busy laughing," one participant said.
"The majority didn't target him because how can you eliminate a person so loveable?" asked a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the show.
"I'd like to participate once more... I doubt it would work a second time!"
Thursday evening's installment was lengthened to 70 minutes on television. It had a different start than typical episodes, as all the celebs knew who'd make it at the morning gathering.
There was particularly inspiring, and atypical for the show soundtrack, as the episode revisited key scenes from every remaining player's experience in the game.
True to form, Alan Carr gave us some of the most memorable lines.
"Let's face it, I started the competition as something of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed some really good friends under the bus, I've eliminated national treasures in plain sight. I'm clearly more deceptive and player than I thought."
At the same time, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than competing with England", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, several players seemed to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the competition, taking over from an earlier departed style leader.
Carr emerged at breakfast resembling a vintage television personality in patterned burgundy attire, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got outstyled by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.
Next up was the competition, with the remaining contestants boarding a train named - naturally - The Traitors Express.
The challenge saw them destroying images of former contestants. Spare a thought for a player who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the lid of a substantial container.
Soon after, it was time for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors did a pinky promise in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," stated a player, while their partner just giggled.
And one adhered to their agreement. But, managing to stay under the radar for the majority of the competition, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The remaining traitor appeared to be experiencing a world of pain to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, without direction."
Social media and viewers were similarly upset.
"I did NOT want that player to be eliminated. An endearing deceiver," commented a commentator.
"Your legacy will remain in Traitors history," wrote another user.
But there was little opportunity to focus on their elimination. Before long, the game reached the endgame - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The final four gathered around the ceremonial fire. And the alliance collapsed, just when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their partner, who turned against them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back last minute in that manner," said the ousted contestant. Later, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player refers to their former ally as a traitor.
Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the last participants.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the competition. The same decision was made by another, and everything depended on the third, who made the identical choice - which meant that the deceiver was the winner.
According to commentators, the scene where the other players consoled the champion was "beautiful TV". "I anticipate it could be in the running for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they said.
Fortunately, the champion quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I was awful at lying, I had no poker face and now I stand the champion," the winner said.
And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his close ally during the initial stages - by leaning toward the host in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, scheming and sometimes surprising incidents may seem like a bizarre fantasy. Yet it actually all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
