Ottolenghi-Inspired Cooking in Portugal

This Mediterranean culinary holiday, located at a riverside villa in the central Portuguese region, is draws inspiration from the vegetarian dishes of celebrated cooks. Attendees will master the art of meze spreads, take part in a hands-on falafel session, perfect brunch dishes such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains including spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. There are trips to the local market and a nearby winery to taste local vintages, plus free time for walks by the nearby river, to unwind on the terrace or take a dip in the pool. The accommodation, a former farmhouse, has multiple rooms, as well as glamping tents in the gardens.

Street Dance in Buckinghamshire

This energetic camp is an uplifting, inclusive three-day dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The daily schedule throughout the camp is a party-style group warmup, followed by several 90-minute workshops teaching different urban dance forms, then an hour-long jam to show off new moves. Participants are split into levels based on skill level, so it is suitable for those who are brand new to popping and locking, right up to advanced dancers or instructors. The camp does not provide lodging but there are a number of hostels and hotels within walking distance, and it is 23-35 minutes by train into central London.

Maritime Singing Break in Cornwall

St Ives is the ideal setting for a sea shanty weekend. Participants will be taught traditional shanties from a experienced musician, and have a go at composing original ones. There will be vocal warmups, breath control techniques, performance tips and a closing performance. The holiday is based at a rural hotel with views of the bay. Full board are provided, including a Cornish cream tea on arrival, cooked or continental breakfasts, packed lunches and three-course dinners. Traditional rum, unfortunately, is not included. Writing in Crete

Author and tutor an experienced instructor leads the daily workshops on this authors' getaway. He covers topics including plot, characters, locations and tension, to submitting work to publishers. Greg’s wife, the bestselling author Kate Mosse, will participate in special sessions at the beginning and end of the retreat. The holiday is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the base of the Lefka Ori – ten one- and two-bedroom cottages surround a central garden with a pool (non-writing partners are encouraged to come along). On the last night, aspiring writers celebrate with a concert in the courtyard and a final meal.

Beginners' Apiculture in Wales

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a host of courses covering eco-living: from wildlife gardening to upcycling. This two-day course will help attendees learn the basics of beekeeping, study the life cycle of honeybees and discover their ecological importance. It is aimed at produce “bee-friendly beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to relax in the organization's sustainably managed forests, which are home to polecats, otters, dormice, bats and uncommon bird species. Accommodation the night before is 80 pounds, and all meals and lodging for the weekend is £97.

Sailing for Beginners in Essex

These recently launched weekend sailing courses are spent on dinghies and Dufours on the estuary in Essex. They are aimed at novice sailors learning the ropes or more experienced mariners who want a refresher. Participants can improve their steering, strengthen their seamanship and aim for the Royal Yachting Association’s certification levels in a fun, welcoming environment. There are non-residential and overnight options, with accommodation in basic shared rooms in the waterside training centre.
